Collaboration

For most of us, the idea of programming our own websites and tools is a little scary. But if librarians collaborate with each other, they can become more independent and not depend on vendors as much!

Code4Lib is an organization for librarians to work together on projects. They also have conferences to share what everyone's working on.

Open Source

Librarians can also use open source technology. Open source is code available for free online that you can download and adapt. Many have user communities with discussion groups, if you need advice! Some examples are the digital library softwares Greenstone and Omeka, and Audacity for sound recording and editing.
