Software
Required: Adobe Creative Cloud / Suite: Dreamweaver, Fireworks / Photoshop, Flash, etc.
- Adobe Creative Cloud: Adobe is now only offering a monthly subscription model (academic price is $30/month for 1 year; sometimes there are offers for $20/month available from Adobe or Rutgers Software).
- You are able to access Adobe Creative Cloud for free via Adobe Cloud for Teams offered by SC&I IT for the duration of the course (inivitation email will be sent to you with instructions for how to activate your specific details will be posted shortly).
- You can of course decide to acquire your own Creative Clould subscription (after the end of the course) so that you will be able to use the software in other courses and to deepen your expertise: many MLIS students find it a worthwhile investment.
- Adobe Creative Suite: is the previous standalone software suite offered by Adobe.
- It may still possible to purchase Creative Suite 6 (CS6), but:
- Please keep in mind that Adobe has no plans for future releases of Creative Suite or other CS products, but you can use it forever.
- Please be aware the application interfaces and some of the functionality in the Creative Cloud applications are not the same as in the Creative Suite 6 applications.
- The SC&I and several Rutgers labs have the Adobe CC software installed.
- Adobe CS6, CS5 and CS4 are fine to use in the course if you already own them, but if you are about to purchase the software, make sure to purchase CS6.
- Adobe CS3 is okay to use if you already own it, however the CS4+ interface is different and certain CS3 features are not supported anymore in CS4+.
- Video Editing
- Premiere Elements (Windows / Mac; $120; available together with Photoshop Elements for less and you can use free 30 Day trial).
- Possible to use free iMovie (Mac) and Windows Movie Maker (Win) which have basic video editing capabilities.
- Adobe Cloud users can use Premiere Pro CC for free.
