Pleasure Reading is Good for Your (Financial) Health

Did you hear about the recent study at Oxford University?

Researchers found that pleasure reading is the only out-of-school activity of 16-year-olds linked to getting a better job.

The good news is that reading by young adults is on the rise. And it has been since about 2002!

Librarians Foster a Love of Reading

Two things that 21st Century librarians do for the youth they serve have been shown to encourage a life-long love of reading:

  • Maintain a print collection that is current and provides quality reading materials; and
  • Arrange creative, age-appropriate reading initiatives.
