Focus on LIS Faculty

Professor Carol Collier Kuhlthau

Former Chair, Library and Information Science Department

Coordinator, School Library Media Specialization
Author of numerous books, chapters, and scholarly journal articles.

Extensive research focused on the Information Search Process, a model describing the experiences of users engaged in extensive inquiry projects. The ISP is thought to have seven stages, each associated with different thoughts (ranging from vague to focused), feelings (ranging from uncertainty to interest), and actions (ranging from exploratory to specific).

Since the school librarian is closely involved with assisting students with research projects, sensitivity and understanding of the ISP is critical.
