What
do Mao Tse-Tung and J. Edgar Hoover have in common? How about
Karl Marx and Batgirl? Or Giles from Buffy and Laura
Bush? How about the Brothers Grimm and Benjamin Franklin?
They
were all librarians at one time.
As
can be seen from the above list, many political thinkers have
been librarians. And why not, when the library houses the collected
wisdom of previous generations, waiting for a radical upstart
to digest what was and to create something new?
Librarianship
is also a popular path to becoming a writer. Writers such as Annette
Curtis Klause, Madeleine L'Engle, and Andre Norton also worked
as librarians.
Librarians
in the media are portrayed as keepers of secrets, people with
hidden depths and possessors of hidden knowledge. They're also
able to kick your ass.
Is
it any wonder that you want to be a librarian too? |
