Show Me the Numbers and What Did You Call Me?
Since the beginning of the great recession we've all read key unemployment statistics. But how valid are those numbers?
With an understanding of all data included you might consider some deceptively "understated." Let's start with the unemployment rate.
That's easy. Or is it? What about the guy next store who gave up looking for a new job? Or the recent college grad
who is working part-time at starbucks. Chances are neither are receiving unemployment-- so therefore are not included in the tally
of unemployed.
There are a remarkable number of words that can describe initial "unemployment". (Almost as many as
the number of words for snow in Eskimo.) "Sacked." "Canned." "Re-org'd." "Downsized." "Bridge to Retirement." How many can you think of?
