Modern libraries provide opportunities for patrons to reach out and connect beyond library walls. Many 21st century libraries are helping to eliminate the digital divide by providing internet access for the general public at library computer terminals and some even offer free wireless connections for those patrons with their own laptops or PDAs.

21st century librarians also embrace Web 2.0 concepts such as blogs, wikis, RSS feeds, and folksonomies.  These user-centered technologies allow patrons to participate and share information in new and exciting ways.
