Censorship

Librarians are on the front lines of the war against censorship. Constantly called to defend the books on their shelves, they are also the loudest voice when it comes to protecting patron privacy and keeping nannyware off of the nation's computers.

Librarians have been archiving and preserving alternative and radical press materials for years, so that none of this important history will be lost. Thanks to them, there are libraries devoted to anarchist and pacifist materials.

All that, and the pervasive image of a librarian is still a repressive woman with a pinched mouth and spectacles! But librarians are changing that too, using their knowledge of the internet to feature real life librarians: tattooed, pierced, exuberant, bellydancing, and most of all, diverse.
