The goal of this project was having students research the connection between art and science while utilizing higher order thinking questions. They were asked to present their findings in Power Point Presentation form. This project was very beneficial for students because
- It discussed an interesting topic in Environmental Science
- Covered some unique organisms that have been living on Earth for very long time
- Stressed the importance of preserving environment in general and these organisms’ habitat in particular
- Sparked curiosity in students and encouraged them to do more research in this topic
- Promoted higher order thinking questions in group discussions
- Fostered critical thinking skills in students
What fascinated me the most was students making connections in our regular class discussions to their “Connecting Art to Science” project. For example, while learning about different types of energy, I showed my students Leonardo Da Vinci’s drawing of trebuchet (a medieval tool) which converts one type of energy into the other. Students participating in this project were able to easily make connections between their research and the lesson they were learning about.
