 Linking Notes to Media

Imagine you want to use your own notes to pinpoint highlights in a media recording. This could be difficult and time-consuming to accomplish. Souvenir makes it easy for you to link and synchronize your own ink with local or Internet media of your choice. You simply need to identify a specific media moment that has to be linked with a specific note. After this, Souvenir does the rest. Just select the "Link to Media" option on the "Media" menu. A wizard will guide you through these steps:

  1. Select the media file - use "drag & drop" to transfer a media URL from a web page into Souvenir, or enter the URL or browse your computer (network) to specify the media file you want to link to.
  2. Select the media time position you want to synchronize to in the media file. You can do this by moving the slider in the Souvenir Media Player and/or playing the media recording until you encounter your "media sync" moment and then pause the stream. If you overshoot or want to fine tune the media position setting, you need to click "pause" and click on the counter in the top right corner to be able to modify the counter setting by selecting the "seconds" or "minutes" portion and clicking on "up/down" icons. Wait a few seconds so that media slider can be updated, and then click "Next".
  3. Select the note – select the "note sync", which can be an individual ink stroke or an ink or text segment, to which you want to link the "media sync." Click "Finish" and you have successfully linked the media.

Note that the name of the linked media file will now appear to right in the status bar. Souvenir preserves the link between your file and the media you selected. You can now click on any piece of ink or text to play the associated media. If you click on ink or text that points to a time before the beginning of the media recording, then playback will start at the beginning.

Souvenir supports auto synchronization when you use the Souvenir Media Player to play the media while you are taking notes. The Media Player keeps track of your media playback activity and uses it to relate it to your note-taking activity. If "auto sync" information is available, then you can perform the synchronization is a single step when you select "Link to Media."
